In 1995, the Horse Prairie Ranch (HPR) identified the Braunvieh breed (naturally marbling, award-winning carcass producers) as excellent sires for Montana-raised Black Angus cows. HPR products are high-grade, natural beef carcasses and Braunvieh X Black Angus Bred Heifers. To learn more about the Braunvieh Breed see www.braunvieh.com. In 2000 HPR Steers were the co-Champion entry in the Carcass Price/Lb. at the Great Western Beef Expo in Sterling, Colorado. This is the category of the contest that measures "profitability". HPR Steers also won additional awards in 2000 and 2001.
HPR's Half-blood Heifers are among the most hearty, well-bred Heifers you will find in Montana. These Heifers can be bred back to Braunvieh (for seed stock or commercial herds), Black Angus, Charolais or other Bulls for commercial herds. The blend of the best of Golden Links Braunvieh Bulls and pedigreed Montana Black Angus Bulls bred to Montanas best Braunvieh/Black Angus Heifers is an unbeatable combination that will ensure an excellent foundation of females for your herd.
The Horse Prairie Ranch was awarded the American Braunvieh Association Breeder of the Year award in 2002.
